The bishops of the Netherlands have decided to cancel the midnight Christmas Mass because of the pandemic.

Newsroom (02/12/2021 8:08 pm, Gaudium Press) As announced by the Dutch bishops yesterday, December 1, Christmas Masses or celebrations will not be allowed after 5 pm. Christmas midnight Mass has also been cancelled.

Other parish activities such as catechism classes and pastoral meetings can only be held online after 5 pm.

As explained by the Dutch bishops’ conference, the intention is to avoid large crowds, curbing the spread of the virus, as it was done last year.

The Netherlands has about 3.7 million Catholics. According to Polls, only 4% attend Mass regularly. (FM)
