Pernambuco – Recife (1/10/2021 10:01 am, Gaudium Press) The State of Pernambuco requires a mandatory presentation of proof of vaccination from the faithful who want to participate in Masses or any other religious event bringing together 300 people or more. The requirement started this week.

The directive was published in the Official State Gazette and signed by the Governor of the State, Paulo Câmara (PSB). Alternatively, Churches will be able to accept COVID test negative result certificates.
Until last week, the limit was 300 attendees. Now, Churches can accommodate up to 2,500 people or 80% of the venue’s capacity.

Archbishop of Olinda and Recife rallies behind the measure

The Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Most Rev. Fernando Saburido, confirmed his support for the measures imposed by the Pernambuco State government.

“We understand that [vaccination] is beneficial for society. If we are well at this moment, it is due to the vaccines. We want to recommend everyone to get vaccinated, taking advantage of this opportunity. We interpret this requirement as something necessary to avoid contagion,” stated the Prelate. (EPC)
