Renowned scholar on the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes, Fr. René Laurentin, dies

Paris, France (Wednesday, 13-09-2017, Gaudium Press) On September 10, Fr. René Laurentin dies in Paris at age 99. He was born October 19, 1917 in Tours, France, and was one of the greatest scholars of the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes.


Father Laurentin was a theologian, exegete and historian. He was a member of the Pontifical Theological Academy of Rome, expert of the Second Vatican Council and professor at the L’Université Catholique de l’Ouest (UCO).

All the research done by Fr. Laurentin on the apparitions of Our Lady to a young girl called Bernadette Soubirous, that happened in Lourdes, in 1858, made him a point of reference on the subject.

Laurentin is widely recognized as an expert in the field of Mariology and is the author of over 150 books and 1,000 scholarly articles. One of his mayor woks is a six-volume story entitled: “Lourdes, Histoire Authentique des Apparitions”.

He also researched other subjects, as the Medujorge apparitions which are being currently analyzed by the Vatican.
